THE PAST MASTERS’ LODGE
If you are a non-Mason, driven by curiosity to find out who exactly the Freemasons are, what motivates them to seek their fellow Masons’ company in Lodges, and what values make us not only unique in modern society but among current fraternal societies throughout the world, you’ve come to the wrong place. You would be better advised to return to your favorite search engine. Better yet, seek out your local Lodge, find out when they meet and (more importantly) when they eat, show up and sit down to talk with the men you find there. Despite all you may have heard to the contrary, members of our oldest “secret society” will be pleased to speak with you about the history and traditions that have nurtured and kept the spirit of the enlightenment alive and thriving for over five hundred years, and throughout the world.
Membership in Union Lodge No. 6 of Washington, DC is reserved for Masons who are not only veteran members of other Lodges, but have risen through the ranks of office to serve as a Lodge’s “Worshipful Master” (a Lodge’s lead officer – the title “Worshipful” having no religious connotation). Our membership hails from across the country, from New York on the east to California on the west, and shares an interest in coming together to enjoy fellowship with others of experience and a passion for refining their appreciation of our initiatory band of brothers, and renewal of those values that led them not only to seek out the fellowship of the Lodge, but to lead a Lodge in its pursuit of excellence and expression of the common bonds that cause us all to refer with great affection to our unique institution as “the Craft.”
Tradition prevails at our quarterly sessions in Washington, DC provide unique opportunities for fellowship, enjoyment, and a forum for discussion of common issues and concerns. Most importantly, they provide each brother the chance for a retreat from external concerns and cares, to center once more on contemplation of his own path to enlightenment. Visitation by Master Masons is encouraged at all of our Stated Communications.
